In the BMC Mayoral elections, 24 Congress corporators were denied seats in the House.

Denying seats to elected Congress corporators in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation is not a simple administrative decision. It is not just an insult to the Congress Party, but also an insult to the democratic voice of millions of Mumbaikars who have elected them to represent them.

This attitude of the BJP, after winning a majority for the first time, exposes its intolerance and nervousness. Attempting to suppress dissent immediately after gaining power is against the very spirit of democracy and demonstrates that the BJP is using its majority as a weapon of oppression, not service.

On the very first day, the Congress took an aggressive stance in the House, raising its voice for the public. All councilors entered the House wearing anti-pollution masks. मुंबई महानगरपालिका में कांग्रेस के निर्वाचित नगरसेवकों को बैठने की जगह न देना कोई साधारण प्रशासनिक फैसला नहीं है। यह सिर्फ कांग्रेस पार्टी का अपमान नहीं, बल्कि उन लाखों मुंबईकर मतदाताओं की लोकतांत्रिक आवाज़ का भी अपमान है जिन्होंने उन्हें चुनकर प्रतिनिधित्व का अधिकार दिया है।

पहली बार बहुमत मिलने के बाद भाजपा का यह रवैया उसकी असहिष्णुता और घबराहट को उजागर करता है। सत्ता मिलते ही विरोध की आवाज़ दबाने की कोशिश करना लोकतंत्र की मूल भावना के खिलाफ है और यह दर्शाता है कि भाजपा बहुमत को सेवा नहीं, बल्कि दमन का हथियार बना रही है।पहले ही दिन कांग्रेस ने सदन में आक्रामक रुख अपनाते हुए जनता के लिए आवाज उठाई। सभी पार्षद प्रदूषण रोधी मास्क पहनकर सदन में दाखिल हुए। समूह नेता अशरफ आज़मी के नेतृत्व में पार्टी ने प्रदूषण और पर्यावरण जैसे प्रमुख मुद्दों पर अपना पक्ष स्पष्ट किया।
