NCP (SP) Opens Talks With Congress For BMC Polls, Stakes Claim To 50 Seats

Mumbai: The Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (SP) has begun negotiations with the Congress for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, demanding 50 seats, after efforts to reach a workable seat-sharing arrangement with the Thackeray brothers failed.

After Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray left little space for other parties in seat-sharing talks, the former Union agriculture minister’s party decided to explore an alliance with the Congress.

According to highly placed sources, Sharad Pawar was keen on retaining the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and wanted Raj Thackeray included in the alliance to take on the BJP in the BMC Polls. 

However, the Congress leadership refused to take the MNS Chief on board, citing his earlier anti–North Indian stance.Sharad Pawar tried to pursue it, but his effort went in vain. Then, the local cadre of his party was keen to be part of an alliance with the Thackeray brothers. 

But in the primary negotiations, it was found that Thackeray’s brother refused to concede a satisfactory number of seats to NCP (SP). They felt there was little space between the two Thackerays. 

Therefore, NCP (SP) has freshly started negotiations with the Congress with a demand of 50 seats in Mumbai,” said a senior leader, requesting anonymity.

The NCP Mumbai unit leader, Rakhi Jadhav, reportedly Met Mumbai Congress President Varsha Gaikwad and submitted a list of seats the party wants to contest. However, a final decision is yet to be taken.

For the BMC Elections, the Congress has decided to contest on its own, having concluded that an alliance with Shiv Sena (UBT) was not Electorally beneficial.

Congress leaders believe that while the party’s minority votes get easily transferred to the Thackeray faction, the Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Hindutva voters do not shift to the Congress. 

As a result, the party has opted to go solo and focus on consolidating its Dalit, minority and other backward class vote base.

मुंबई: शरद पवार के नेतृत्व वाली राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी (एसपी) ने बृहन्मुंबई नगर निगम (बीएमसी) चुनावों के लिए कांग्रेस से बातचीत शुरू कर दी है और 50 सीटों की मांग रखी है। ठाकरे बंधुओं के साथ सीटों के बंटवारे पर सहमति न बन पाने के बाद यह कदम उठाया गया है। महाराष्ट्र नवनिर्माण सेना (एमएनएस) के प्रमुख राज ठाकरे द्वारा सीटों के बंटवारे की बातचीत में अन्य पार्टियों के लिए बहुत कम गुंजाइश छोड़ने के बाद, पूर्व केंद्रीय कृषि मंत्री की पार्टी ने कांग्रेस के साथ गठबंधन की संभावना तलाशने का फैसला किया।

उच्च पदस्थ सूत्रों के अनुसार, शरद पवार महा विकास अघाड़ी (एमवीए) को बरकरार रखने के इच्छुक थे और बीएमसी चुनावों में भाजपा का मुकाबला करने के लिए राज ठाकरे को गठबंधन में शामिल करना चाहते थे।

हालांकि, कांग्रेस नेतृत्व ने एमएनएस प्रमुख को उनके पूर्व उत्तर भारतीय विरोधी रुख का हवाला देते हुए गठबंधन में शामिल करने से इनकार कर दिया।

शरद पवार ने इसके लिए प्रयास किया, लेकिन उनका प्रयास व्यर्थ गया।  तब, उनकी पार्टी के स्थानीय कार्यकर्ता ठाकरे बंधुओं के साथ गठबंधन करने के लिए उत्सुक थे।

लेकिन प्रारंभिक वार्ता में यह पाया गया कि ठाकरे के भाई ने एनसीपी (एसपी) को पर्याप्त सीटें देने से इनकार कर दिया। उन्हें लगा कि दोनों ठाकरे भाइयों के बीच बहुत कम अंतर है।

इसलिए, एनसीपी (एसपी) ने मुंबई में 50 सीटों की मांग के साथ कांग्रेस के साथ नए सिरे से बातचीत शुरू कर दी है,” एक वरिष्ठ नेता ने नाम न छापने की शर्त पर कहा।

एनसीपी की मुंबई इकाई की नेता राखी जाधव ने कथित तौर पर मुंबई कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष वर्षा गायकवाड़ से मुलाकात की और पार्टी द्वारा चुनाव लड़ने के लिए चुनी गई सीटों की सूची सौंपी। हालांकि, अभी अंतिम निर्णय लिया जाना बाकी है।

बीएमसी चुनावों के लिए, कांग्रेस ने अकेले चुनाव लड़ने का फैसला किया है, क्योंकि उसने यह निष्कर्ष निकाला है कि शिवसेना (यूबीटी) के साथ गठबंधन चुनावी रूप से लाभकारी नहीं होगा।

कांग्रेस नेताओं का मानना ​​है कि जहां पार्टी के अल्पसंख्यक वोट आसानी से ठाकरे गुट को मिल जाते हैं, वहीं शिवसेना (यूबीटी) के हिंदुत्ववादी मतदाता कांग्रेस की ओर नहीं जाते।

नतीजतन, पार्टी ने अकेले चुनाव लड़ने और अपने दलित, अल्पसंख्यक और अन्य पिछड़ा वर्ग के वोट बैंक को मजबूत करने पर ध्यान केंद्रित करने का विकल्प चुना है।

इसी बीच, महाराष्ट्र कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष हर्षवर्धन सपकाल ने ओबीसी नेता महादेव जानकर से मुलाकात की, जिसमें दोनों ने देसी सहमति व्यक्त की।
