 Mumbai News: BMC Clears Around 200 Illegal Hawkers And Unauthorised Structures Near Cooper Hospital In Andheri To Ease Traffic And Ambulance Access

Mumbai, Jan 30: Around 200 illegal hawkers and unauthorised structures were evicted in Andheri West on Thursday by the BMC. 

The action was taken against unauthorised hawking stalls along Ram Ganesh Gadkari Marg (Irla Marg) in Andheri West, connecting Swami Vivekananda Marg and Gulmohar Marg, as well as the approach road to Dr R N Cooper Hospital.

Officials said the unauthorised hawkers not only obstructed traffic and pedestrian movement, but also ambulances entering the Cooper Hospital, especially during emergencies.

Obstruction to emergency services

The Encroachments, including the temporary shops set up by unauthorised hawkers, were obstructing pedestrian movement and creating serious difficulties for ambulances transporting patients to the hospital, particularly during emergencies. 

In response, the K West administrative ward undertook a large-scale eviction drive, during which nearly 200 unauthorised hawkers and illegal structures on the footpaths were cleared,” the BMC said in its statement.

Large-scale operation

The drive was executed using four encroachment removal vehicles, three JCB machines and other equipment. 

Around 100 personnel, comprising municipal staff and police officers, were deployed to ensure smooth implementation of the operation.

The BMC Said that similar drives against unauthorised constructions will continue on a regular basis in the coming days.

Citywide civic challenge

The Persistent issue of unauthorised hawkers remains a major civic challenge in Mumbai, affecting pedestrians, traffic movement and public safety across the city. 

Despite repeated drives by the BMC, the footpaths and key junctions continue to be encroached upon, particularly in crowded commercial and residential areas, and outside railway stations.

मुंबई, 30 जनवरी: बीएमसी ने गुरुवार को अंधेरी पश्चिम में लगभग 200 अवैध फेरीवालों और अनाधिकृत ढांचों को हटाया।

यह कार्रवाई अंधेरी पश्चिम में राम गणेश गडकरी मार्ग (इरला मार्ग) पर, स्वामी विवेकानंद मार्ग और गुलमोहर मार्ग को जोड़ने वाले मार्ग के साथ-साथ डॉ. आर एन कूपर अस्पताल की ओर जाने वाली सड़क पर स्थित अनाधिकृत फेरीवालों के खिलाफ की गई।

अधिकारियों ने बताया कि अनाधिकृत फेरीवालों ने न केवल यातायात और पैदल यात्रियों की आवाजाही में बाधा डाली, बल्कि कूपर अस्पताल में प्रवेश करने वाली एम्बुलेंस, विशेष रूप से आपातकालीन स्थितियों के दौरान, के लिए भी परेशानी खड़ी की।

 आपातकालीन सेवाओं में बाधा

 अनाधिकृत फेरीवालों द्वारा स्थापित अस्थायी दुकानों सहित अतिक्रमणों से पैदल यात्रियों की आवाजाही बाधित हो रही थी और विशेष रूप से आपातकालीन स्थितियों के दौरान, मरीजों को अस्पताल ले जाने वाली एम्बुलेंस के लिए गंभीर कठिनाइयाँ पैदा हो रही थीं।

बड़े पैमाने पर अभियान

इस अभियान में अतिक्रमण हटाने के लिए चार वाहनों, तीन जेसीबी मशीनों और अन्य उपकरणों का इस्तेमाल किया गया।

अभियान के सुचारू संचालन को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए नगर निगम के कर्मचारियों और पुलिस अधिकारियों सहित लगभग 100 कर्मियों को तैनात किया गया था।

बीएमसी ने कहा कि आने वाले दिनों में अनाधिकृत निर्माणों के खिलाफ इसी तरह के अभियान नियमित रूप से जारी रहेंगे।

शहरव्यापी नागरिक चुनौती

अवैध फेरीवालों की समस्या मुंबई में एक बड़ी नागरिक चुनौती बनी हुई है, जो पूरे शहर में पैदल चलने वालों, यातायात की आवाजाही और सार्वजनिक सुरक्षा को प्रभावित करती है।

बीएमसी द्वारा बार-बार चलाए गए अभियानों के बावजूद, फुटपाथों और प्रमुख चौराहों पर अतिक्रमण जारी है, खासकर भीड़भाड़ वाले व्यावसायिक और आवासीय क्षेत्रों में और रेलवे स्टेशनों के बाहर।

हालिया हिंसा ने इस मुद्दे को उजागर किया

फेरीवालों के खतरे का मुद्दा हाल ही में एक बार फिर सुर्खियों में आया जब  कुर्ला में तीन भाजपा कार्यकर्ताओं और फेरीवालों के बीच हिंसा।

पार्किंग की जगह को लेकर शुरू हुई झड़प मारपीट में तब्दील हो गई, जिसमें तीन लोग गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए।
