   Mumbai On High Alert As 12 Minor Children, Including 8 Girls, Go Missing In 36 Hours;  Trafficking  Fears Grow

Mumbai, Feb 01: The disappearance of minor children has emerged as a serious and alarming crisis in India’s financial capital, Mumbai. 

The search for  missing children  has intensified across city streets, slum clusters, railway stations and bus depots as fresh data reveals that 12 minor children went missing within the last 36 hours from the jurisdictions of seven different police stations in the city. Of these, eight are girls

Based on Complaints filed by Parents and Guardians, FIRs have been registered against 12 unidentified persons under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on suspicion of kidnapping. 

These incidents have further strengthened concerns about the presence of organised child trafficking networks operating in the city.

While Mumbai Police have assured families that all possible efforts are being made to trace the children safely, the rising number of such cases has raised serious concerns among child rights activists and law enforcement agencies.

Trafficking angle under probe

Police suspect that human trafficking could be a major factor behind several of the disappearances. 

While some cases may be linked to family disputes or children running away from home, the consistent rise in numbers and the higher proportion of missing girls point towards the involvement of organised gangs.

Experts say that in a megacity like Mumbai, slum areas, crowded markets, railway stations and bus terminals have become vulnerable hotspots where children can be easily targeted. 

In response, Mumbai Police have gone into alert mode, intensifying CCTV surveillance, foot patrols and technical monitoring. While some children are traced quickly, investigations in the remaining cases are ongoing.

Police station-wise cases

According to Police Records, Missing children have been reported from Shivaji Nagar (four cases), Sakinaka (two cases), Antop Hill (two cases), and Oshiwara, Mankhurd, Bangur Nagar and Ghatkopar (one case each).

शहर की सड़कों, झुग्गी-झोपड़ियों, रेलवे स्टेशनों और बस डिपो में लापता बच्चों की तलाश तेज कर दी गई है, क्योंकि ताजा आंकड़ों से पता चला है कि पिछले 36 घंटों में शहर के सात अलग-अलग पुलिस थानों के अधिकार क्षेत्र से 12 नाबालिग बच्चे लापता हो गए हैं। इनमें से आठ लड़कियां हैं।

अभिभावकों और अभिभावकों द्वारा दर्ज कराई गई शिकायतों के आधार पर, अपहरण के संदेह में भारतीय न्याय संहिता (बीएनएस) की धारा 137(2) के तहत 12 अज्ञात व्यक्तियों के खिलाफ एफआईआर दर्ज की गई है।

इन घटनाओं ने शहर में सक्रिय संगठित बाल तस्करी नेटवर्क की मौजूदगी को लेकर चिंताओं को और मजबूत कर दिया है।

 मुंबई पुलिस ने परिवारों को आश्वासन दिया है कि बच्चों को सुरक्षित ढूंढने के लिए हर संभव प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं, लेकिन ऐसे मामलों की बढ़ती संख्या ने बाल अधिकार कार्यकर्ताओं और कानून प्रवर्तन एजेंसियों के बीच गंभीर चिंता पैदा कर दी है।

मानव तस्करी की जांच जारी

पुलिस को संदेह है कि कई लापता मामलों के पीछे मानव तस्करी एक प्रमुख कारण हो सकती है।

हालांकि कुछ मामले पारिवारिक विवादों या बच्चों के घर से भाग जाने से जुड़े हो सकते हैं, लेकिन मामलों की लगातार बढ़ती संख्या और लापता लड़कियों की अधिक संख्या संगठित गिरोहों की संलिप्तता की ओर इशारा करती है।

विशेषज्ञों का कहना है कि मुंबई जैसे महानगर में, झुग्गी-झोपड़ी वाले इलाके, भीड़भाड़ वाले बाजार, रेलवे स्टेशन और बस टर्मिनल ऐसे संवेदनशील स्थान बन गए हैं जहां बच्चों को आसानी से निशाना बनाया जा सकता है।

इसके जवाब में, मुंबई पुलिस सतर्क हो गई है और सीसीटीवी निगरानी, ​​पैदल गश्त और तकनीकी निगरानी तेज कर दी है। कुछ बच्चों को जल्दी ढूंढ लिया जाता है, लेकिन शेष मामलों में जांच जारी है।

 पुलिस स्टेशनवार मामले

पुलिस रिकॉर्ड के अनुसार, शिवाजी नगर (चार मामले), साकीनाका (दो मामले), एंटॉप हिल (दो मामले) और ओशिवारा, मानखुर्द, बांगुर नगर और घाटकोपर (प्रत्येक में एक मामला) से लापता बच्चों की सूचना मिली है।

पुलिस सूत्रों ने बताया कि अभी तक किसी भी परिवार को फिरौती की कोई कॉल नहीं आई है।
