  BMC  Intensifies  Anti-Hawkers Eviction  Across  Mumbai

Following unending Complaints by the citizens  on rising hawkers menace in Mumbai encroaching  footpaths creating  traffic  Mess  and leaving pedestrians struggling to find their way, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finally significantly intensified its actions against the illegal hawkers and unauthorised stalls. 

In the last 20 days, areas like Borivali and Andheri in the western suburbs, Dadar, Kurla and Mulund in the eastern suburbs and Mohammad Ali Road in south Mumbai have witnessing frequent eviction drives.

Local leaders join Eviction drives

In Borivali, the local  MLA Sanjay Upadhyay  has been accompanying the BMC staff for the eviction drives of unauthorised hawkers. While in Dadar, the worst affected area, local BJP leader Akshata Tendulkar has been directly confronting the hawkers gang. 

This week, citizens took social media to post pictures of hawkers-free foothpaths outside Dadar railway station.

Andheri clears Emergency Pathways

On January 30, in Andheri Near Cooper Hospital, the H-West ward evicted as many as 200 unauthorised hawkers and illegal structures from the Irla Road and SV Road and footpaths, which were not only creating a menace but obstructed the ambulance entering the hospital in emergency situations. While in B ward (Mohammad Ali Road Road, YM Road) everyday action is been taken from February 5.

Violence triggers mass evictions

The BMC came more into force to act against the hawkers menace, after three BJP workers were assaulted by a hawkers' group near Kurla West station on January 18, two days after BMC elections result. 

What started as a minor argument over parking, escalated into violent clash, after the hawkers critically injuring the trio. 

The attack, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, had triggered tensions in the area. A case of rioting and attempt to murder was also registered against six accused. 

The Next day, the BMC launched a eviction drive on  New  Mill Road  Vinobha Bhave Nagar  and Bail  Bazar and demolished 71 unauthorised structures. 

The BMC said then that it's action against illegal hawkers and structures will continue

 मुंबई में बढ़ते फेरीवालों के आतंक, फुटपाथों पर अतिक्रमण, यातायात जाम और पैदल चलने वालों के लिए मुश्किलों को लेकर नागरिकों की लगातार शिकायतों के बाद, बृहन्मुंबई नगर निगम (बीएमसी) ने आखिरकार अवैध फेरीवालों और अनाधिकृत दुकानों के खिलाफ अपनी कार्रवाई तेज कर दी है।

पिछले 20 दिनों में, पश्चिमी उपनगरों के बोरीवली और अंधेरी, पूर्वी उपनगरों के दादर, कुर्ला और मुलुंड और दक्षिण मुंबई के मोहम्मद अली रोड जैसे इलाकों में लगातार फेरीवालों को हटाने के अभियान चलाए गए हैं।

स्थानीय नेता भी कार्रवाई में शामिल हुए

बोरीवली में, स्थानीय विधायक संजय उपाध्याय अनाधिकृत फेरीवालों को हटाने के अभियानों में बीएमसी कर्मचारियों के साथ शामिल रहे हैं। वहीं, सबसे ज्यादा प्रभावित क्षेत्र दादर में, स्थानीय भाजपा नेता अक्षता तेंदुलकर फेरीवालों के गिरोह का सीधे सामना कर रही हैं।

 इस सप्ताह, नागरिकों ने दादर रेलवे स्टेशन के बाहर फेरीवालों से मुक्त फुटपाथों की तस्वीरें सोशल मीडिया पर साझा कीं।

अंधेरी में आपातकालीन मार्गों को साफ किया गया

30 जनवरी को, अंधेरी में कूपर अस्पताल के पास, एच-वेस्ट वार्ड ने इरला रोड और एसवी रोड तथा फुटपाथों से लगभग 200 अनधिकृत फेरीवालों और अवैध ढांचों को हटाया, जो न केवल परेशानी पैदा कर रहे थे बल्कि आपातकालीन स्थितियों में अस्पताल में प्रवेश करने वाली एम्बुलेंस के लिए भी बाधा उत्पन्न कर रहे थे। वहीं बी वार्ड (मोहम्मद अली रोड, वाईएम रोड) में 5 फरवरी से प्रतिदिन कार्रवाई की जा रही है।

हिंसा के कारण बड़े पैमाने पर बेदखली

बीएमसी चुनाव परिणाम घोषित होने के दो दिन बाद, 18 जनवरी को कुर्ला वेस्ट स्टेशन के पास फेरीवालों के एक समूह द्वारा तीन भाजपा कार्यकर्ताओं पर हमला किए जाने के बाद, बीएमसी ने फेरीवालों की समस्या के खिलाफ कार्रवाई में और अधिक सख्ती बरती।

पार्किंग को लेकर शुरू हुआ मामूली विवाद हिंसक झड़प में तब्दील हो गया, जब फेरीवालों ने तीनों को गंभीर रूप से घायल कर दिया।

 इस हमले का वीडियो सोशल मीडिया पर खूब वायरल हुआ, जिससे इलाके में तनाव फैल गया। छह आरोपियों के खिलाफ दंगा और हत्या के प्रयास का मामला दर्ज किया गया।

अगले दिन, बीएमसी ने न्यू मिल रोड, विनोबा भावे नगर और बैल बाजार में अतिक्रमण हटाने का अभियान चलाया और 71 अवैध ढांचों को ध्वस्त कर दिया।

बीएमसी ने तब कहा था कि अवैध फेरीवालों और ढांचों के खिलाफ उसकी कार्रवाई जारी रहेगी।
