Sachin Ahir Elected Unopposed as Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council: From Mill Workers’ Leader to a Constitutional Office

Mumbai: Mahayuti candidate Sachin Ahir has been elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Initially, the Opposition had fielded J.M. Abhyankar against Ahir. However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil appealed to the Opposition to withdraw its candidate. Following the appeal, Abhyankar withdrew his nomination, paving the way for Sachin Ahir’s unopposed election as Deputy Chairman.

With this election, Ahir has become the 11th Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council since the formation of the state of Maharashtra.

Who is Sachin Ahir?

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Sunetra Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray faction leader Ambadas Danve, and Bhai Jagtap congratulated Sachin Ahir on his election.

Sachin Ahir began his political career in 1993 through the labour movement in Mumbai. He consistently fought for the rights and welfare of textile mill workers. He was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly three consecutive times from 1999 to 2014. In 2009, he served as the Minister of State for Housing in the Maharashtra government. Before Ahir, Shinde Sena leader Neelam Gorhe held the post of Deputy Chairperson.

A Major Reward After Joining Shinde

Political observers consider this development highly significant. Sachin Ahir joined Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s camp after leaving Uddhav Thackeray’s faction, and soon after, he was entrusted with the important constitutional responsibility of Deputy Chairman.

Speaking after his election, Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir said:

“My commitment to the common people, the working class, and the soil of Maharashtra was unwavering yesterday, remains the same today, and will continue in the future. As Deputy Chairman, I will strive to ensure equal justice to every member without any discrimination.”

Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde said:

“Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir will further strengthen the rich traditions of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. By conducting the proceedings of the House in a fair, calm, and rule-based manner, he will uphold and enhance the dignity of this institution.”

He further remarked:

“Sachin Ahir is a master strategist in politics. We are confident that, with his commitment to rules, discipline, and justice, he will take the office of Deputy Chairman to new heights. His unanimous election is a matter of pride for the House.”

महायुति उम्मीदवार सचिन अहीर को निर्विरोध विधान परिषद का उपसभापति चुन लिया गया। शिंदे गुट के सचिन अहीर के खिलाफ विपक्ष ने जेएम अभ्यंकर को अपना उम्मीदवार बनाया था। लेकिन संसदीय कार्य मंत्री चंद्रकांत पाटील ने विपक्ष से अपना उम्मीदवार वापस लेने की अपील की।मुंबई: महायुति उम्मीदवार सचिन अहीर को निर्विरोध विधान परिषद का उपसभापति चुन लिया गया। शिंदे गुट के सचिन अहीर के खिलाफ विपक्ष ने जेएम अभ्यंकर को अपना उम्मीदवार बनाया था। लेकिन संसदीय कार्य मंत्री चंद्रकांत पाटील ने विपक्ष से अपना उम्मीदवार वापस लेने की अपील की। जिसके बाद अभ्यंकर ने अपना नामांकन पत्र वापस ले लिया और सचिन अहीर निर्विरोध उप सभापति चुन लिए गए। संयुक्त महाराष्ट्र बनने के बाद विधान परिषद के ग्यारहवें उपसभापति बने हैं।कौन हैं सचिन अहीर?मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस , उपमुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे, सुनेत्रा पवार , उद्धव गुट के अम्बासाहेब दानवे सहित भाई जगताप ने सचिन अहीर के पर चुने जाने के लिए बधाई दी। सचिन अहीर ने मुंबई में 1993 में मजदूर आंदोलन से अपने राजनीतिक जीवन की शुरुआत की थी। वे मिल मजदूरों के मुद्दों के लिए लगातार लड़ते रहे। सचिन 1999 से 2014 तक लगातार तीन बार विधानसभा के सदस्य चुने गए। 2009 में राज्य के गृह निर्माण राज्य मंत्री भी बने थे। इससे पहले शिंदे सेना की नीलम गोरहे उपसभापति थीं।शिंदे के साथ जाते ही मिला बड़ा इनाम:राजनीतिक हलकों में इस घटनाक्रम को बेहद अहम माना जा रहा है। सचिन अहीर एक दिन पहले ही उद्धव ठाकरे का साथ छोड़कर मुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे के साथ गए थे। शिंदे के साथ जाते ही उन्हें उप सभापति जैसे महत्वपूर्ण संवैधानिक पद की जिम्मेदारी मिल गई।सचिन अहीर, उपसभापति ने कहा कि आम लोगों, मजदूर वर्ग और महाराष्ट्र की मिट्टी के लिए मेरा कमिटमेंट कल भी था, आज भी है और कल भी रहेगा। उपसभापति के तौर पर मैं बिना किसी भेदभाव के हर सदस्य को बराबर न्याय दिलाने की पूरी कोशिश करूंगा।प्रो. राम शिंदे , सभापति ने कहा कि उप सभापति सचिन अहीर विधान परिषद की शानदार परंपरा को और मजबूत करेंगे। हाउस की कार्यवाही को निष्पक्ष , शांत और नियम में चलाकर विधान परिषद की शानदार परंपरा को और मजबूत करेंगे।सचिन अहीर राजनीति के मास्टर ब्लास्टर हैं। हमें उम्मीद है कि नियम, संयम और न्याय के दम पर उप सभापति के पद को नई ऊंचाई देंगे। इनका बिना विरोध चुना जाना हाउस के लिए गर्व की बात है।
